I've been playing Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook and am baffled as to how you get the multipliers?

I always seem to get my best scores when I get the 1x, 2x, 3x, etc. (and when they come up early). But I don't know what I'm doing to make them come up.|||Just cheat, it鈥檚 easier.
