How do you get a high score with Bejeweled?

My friend gets scores of 300 or more and she told me she has learned tricks to score high? Do people cheat? What are some tricks? I've never cheated on a game before, and to tell you honestly, I've scored higher than a 450. The only way that you can get higher points is if you PRACTICE OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
